Bio

Misato is an Associate Professorial Research Fellow and Deputy Research Director at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, London School of Economics and Political Science. She is also a Senior Associate at the LSE Centre for Economic Performance, a Co-Editor of the Environmental and Resource Economics journal, a DIW Fellow, a member of the ESRC Environmental Social Science Strategic Advisory Group, and a member of the Climate Friendly Materials Platform.

Her research examines how to deliver a rapid, just low-carbon transition across firms, workers and capital markets. She studies industrial decarbonisation, competitiveness and trade - estimating how carbon pricing, energy costs and global markets affect firms’ emissions, productivity, innovation and investment, and carbon leakage. She evaluates the design and effectiveness of climate and energy policies using empirical methods and microdata. She is also interested in understanding how these shifts in production are reshaping labour markets - skills, wages, mobility, regional development, welfare, as well as capital markets and how investors perceive and price climate-related risks.
